HIGH POINT, N.C.--
High Point University Women's Soccer Head Coach Brandi Fontaine has announced the 2021 fall schedule as HPU looks to build off its second consecutive Big South regular-season title it claimed last spring. The Panthers enter the fall of 2021 after enjoying its most nationally prominent season in program history. HPU was ranked as high as 24th in both the Top-Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News media polls as well as receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll.HPU will play 19 games this season, with two of them making up the preseason, a ten-game Big South slate, and six non-conference contests. The Panthers will face two ACC opponents and an SEC opponent as well as teams from the Atlantic 10, SoCon, American, and the Colonial. High Point fans will have eight chances to see the Purple & White in Vert Stadium this fall.
"This could possibly be one of the toughest schedules we have ever put together in my time of being here, but I have no doubt this group is ready, Head Coach Fontaine said. "Not only do we return an extremely strong group of players, but we also have a lot of quality players joining us this fall. There isn't one game to take lightly and we intentionally created this schedule because we believe this group will rise to the occasion."
HPU opens the season with two exhibition games opening the season in Vert Stadium against Davidson on Sunday, August 8th at 6:00 PM. Then for the first time in program history, High Point welcomes North Carolina to Vert Stadium for an exhibition contest on Thursday, August 12th at 7:00 PM. This will be the first time HPU and UNC will meet in a non-NCAA Tournament setting the two have met four times previously all in the NCAA Tournament.
Two road games start the regular season for High Point but they stay local as both are triad matchups. On Thursday, August 19 at 7:00 PM the Piedmont Triad Derby collects another chapter as UNCG host HPU. The Panthers have won the last two meetings against the Spartans. On Sunday, August 22nd at 6:00 PM HPU travels to Winston-Salem to play Wake Forest for the first time since 2010 and just the third time in program history.
The first home game of the 2021 regular season will be on Thursday, August 26th at 6:00 PM UNCW comes to Vert Stadium. That weekend HPU stays in Vert Stadium as the Panthers hosts ECU on Sunday, August 29th, at 1:00 PM. The Pirates return to Vert Stadium for the first time since 2013 when HPU defeated ECU 1-0 in double overtime.
High Point faces its first SEC opponent since September of 2017 with a trip to face Tennessee for the first meeting in program history in Knoxville on Sunday, September 5th at 6:30 PM. On Thursday, September 9th the first-time meetings continue as HPU challenges the Spiders of Richmond on the road at 4:00 PM. The Panthers' last non-conference game of the regular season is a home game as HPU plays host to James Madison. The Dukes will be playing a full slate after only playing six contests last season.
On Saturday, September 18th Big South play starts for HPU with a rematch of the 2020-21 Big South Championship game as The Panthers host Campbell at 7:00 PM. On Wednesday, September 22nd High Point heads up the mountain to face UNC Asheville at 6:00 PM. After a quick trip up to Asheville, HPU closes the month of September with two Big South home games against Charleston Southern on Saturday, September 25th at noon and Winthrop on Wednesday, September 29th at 6:00 PM.
The Panthers then head to South Carolina for two conference games, on Saturday, October 2nd at 7:00 PM HPU faces Presbyterian in Clinton and USC Upstate on Wednesday, October 6th at 7:00 PM.
A bye will give the Panthers a Saturday off the second weekend of October, then they return to Vert on Wednesday, October 13th to host Radford at 6:00 PM. On Saturday, October 16th at 7:00 PM HPU travels to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb. HPU will play its last Big South road game of the regular season on Wednesday, October 20th at 7:00 PM in Farmville, Va against Longwood.
Saturday, October 23rd The Panthers return to Vert Stadium for senior night against Hampton at 4:00 PM.
The Big South tournament starts on Friday, October 29th with the Big South quarterfinals, followed then by the Big South Semifinal, on November 4th, with the Big South Championship final being held on Sunday, November 7th.
