A 4-year-old girl drowned Thanksgiving Day after being swept out to sea off Point Reyes National Seashore, according to the National Park Service.
The incident happened about 4 p.m., when authorities received a 911 call saying the girl was swept into the ocean by a wave at McClures Beach, the park service reported. Several agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, the park service, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and the Coast Guard responded.
The girl was taken to Oakland Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her father was also treated for hypothermia at Petaluma Regional Hospital after he went in to the ocean trying to save his daughter, authorities said.
The names of the father and daughter have not been released.
