AUSTIN, Texas – On Sunday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center, junior forward/center Charli Collier registered the fourth-highest scoring game (44 points) in Texas women's basketball history to help power the Longhorns (2-0) to a commanding 106-69 win over North Texas (1-1).

Collier's 44 points were a new career-high and came as part of a 14-for-17 (career-high FG's made) effort from the field that included a 2-for-2 mark from the three-point stripe and a 14-for-15 performance (career-high FT's made) from the free throw line. The Mont Belvieu, Texas, native also added 16 rebounds to complete both her 18th career double-double and second consecutive double-double to open the campaign.

Junior guard/forward Audrey Warren added 16 points and four rebounds, sophomore guard Celeste Taylor contributed 14 points, four boards, four steals and two assists, junior guard Joanne Allen-Taylor tallied 13 points, three rebounds and two steals and freshman guard Ashley Chevalier scored the first 10 points of her collegiate career as Texas boasted five players in double figures.

The NCAA Division I team leader in turnovers forced entering the contest against UNT, Texas' defense managed to force 23 turnovers against the Mean Green that were turned into 23 points.

After a tight first quarter that saw the Longhorns leading 24-20 on the strength of Collier's 12 points and six tallies each from Taylor and Warren, Texas began pulling away over the second 10-minute period.

Leading 35-30 with 4:52 left in the second quarter, Collier and freshman forward DeYona Gaston scored consecutive buckets to ignite an 11-2 finishing kick that granted Texas a 46-32 halftime advantage.

From there, the Burnt Orange & White took complete control, shooting 66.7% as a team (20-for-30) during the second half while out-scoring North Texas, 60-37. Over that 20-minute stretch of game action, Collier registered 22 points, while Warren and Chevalier each added 10.

Team Notes

  • Texas crossed the 100-point plateau for the first time since Dec. 29, 2018 (Northwestern State), while the 106 points were the most for the Longhorns in a single game since putting up 120 in a 120-70 victory over UTSA back on Nov. 17, 2017.
  • Today was the 70th time that Texas has reached the 100-point plateau in a contest. UT is now a perfect 70-0 in those instances.
  • Texas' offense has now scored at least 42 points in all four halves this season with a high of 60 during the second stanza against North Texas.
  • The 37-point margin of victory was Texas' largest over North Texas since Nov. 20, 2009, when the Longhorns knocked off the Mean Green by 44, 96-52.
  • UT improved to a perfect 15-0 in the all-time series against North Texas, including 10-0 in Austin.
  • The NCAA Division I team leader in turnovers forced, Texas added 23 more against the Mean Green to give the Longhorns 58 combined turnovers forced over the opening two contests (29 tpg)

Charli Collier

  • Registered a career-high 44 points on 14-for-17 shooting from the field, 2-for-2 from 3-pt range and 14-of-15 from the free throw line.
  • Collier's effort marked the sixth 40-point game in Texas history while her 44 points were the fourth-most in a single game in program history.
  • Collier's 40-point game was the first for a Texas player since Danielle Viglione established the program record with 48 back on Jan. 29, 1994, against Houston.
  • Collier's 14 made free throws tied for the fourth-most in a single game in program history.
  • Collier has now posted back-to-back 20-or-more point games for the first time in her career.
  • Collier registered her 18th career double-double by the half (22 points and 11 boards in the first half) and finished with 44 points and 16 rebounds.
  • Collier's 16 rebounds marked the eighth time in her career that she's recorded at least 15 boards in a game.
  • Collier's 14 field goals and 14 free throws were both career-highs.
  • Collier registered her seventh career game of 20-or-more points.
  • Collier started the game 7-for-7 from the free throw line meaning she made her first 16 FT's to open the season.

Ashley Chevalier

  • Chevalier scored a career-high 10 points against the Mean Green. They were the first 10 points of her brief Texas career.

Audrey Warren

  • Warren's 16 points were the second-most in her career, trailing only a 21-point effort against Tennessee back on Dec. 9, 2018.

Celeste Taylor

  • Taylor added four steals against the Mean Green to give her 12 combined thefts through the first two games, an average of six steals-per-game.
